Hello there,
Since the dog has died the patient(your friend's son) has to be treated on an emergency basis.
He has to be given anti rabies immunoglobulin now which will be injected and protect him in the short term from the dog bite.
He also has to be given rabipur vaccinations which will build his immunity against the dog bite virus over a longer time. These are normally given on 0,3,7,14,21 schedule where the numbers indicate the days he is given vaccinations with 0 being the first day of the shot.

You do not have to worry since early treatment is the best way to counter the dog bite and if it has been started that is beneficial for the child.

Hope this helps,
Please feel free to ask any further questions. I would be glad to help,
