Suggest Other Treatments For Ulcerative Colitis

I was diagnosed with UC about 10 years ago, it s always been pretty manageable. On Asacol and Canasa enemas. About 2 years ago found out it was proctitus too. Ever since then, it s been harder to control. Ucerus steroids aren t working. I ve tried xifacin, made it worse and now am on Flagyl. I m having severe diarrhea and when I use the Cordisol foam enema, I get worse. The next step unfortunately is the 6mp drug and changing my diet. Any other suggestions?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Medical management is the recommended treatment option. Newer agents like immunomodulators and monoclonal antibodies can also be used. If medical management fails, surgery may be required in the form for total proctocolectomy. Consult gastroenterologist and he will direct you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
