My brother has COPD, he is 42 years old and has the lungs of a 75 year old man according to his doctors. He takes breathing treatments every 4 hours, he has oxygen all over the place and uses as needed. He can't do anything without losing his breath. I want him to be able to enjoy life. I thought about donating one of my lungs to him. Would this be possible and would it help him?
Thanks for your question on Healthcare Magic. I can understand your concern. Yes, lung transplant is an option for end stage COPD. But you can not donate your lung because you can not live on one lung. Donors for lung transplant are brain dead patients. There is registry maintained for lung transplant. So enroll his name in this registry to avoid waiting period. Hope I have solved your query. I will be happy to help you further. Wishing good health to your brother. Thanks.
