Suggest Precautions To Be Taken For Infected Sore Above Ankle
have an infected sore from a ladder hitting right leg above ankle. Dr prescribed an antibiotic and gave a triple shot DTAP that included TetInis. Now Day 5 - half way thru 10 day run. Hot soaks got the puss that I could see out & hydrogin peroxide cleaned but the gauze pad stuck to oozing wound. Bandaged loosely last night and the scab formed -- still red one inch around and very sensitive to touch on the scab area. I think I want the scab to stay for protection tonight but then I need to keep it dry during my shower. Thinking oif wrapping in a plastic bag during shower. Do I let the scab stay? to allow antibiotic to work? SULFAMETHOXAZOLE/TRIMETHOPRIM 800MG TB Or soak it off again.
It is not recommended to get the wound wet during the shower. So, I agree wrapping it in a plastic bag during shower. I also suggest to continue the antibiotics prescribed by your doctor.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
