Hi,I am Dr. Joan F. Tryzelaar (Cardiac Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, My father had his angioplasty last month...and now he is having high fever with loss of appetite and he vomits out whatever he eats...doctor suggested liver function test and that test suggests high level of bilirubin, SGOT and SGPt...what should i do now?
Hello. Thank you for your question and welcome to HCM. I understand your concern.
Good luck with your father's aftermath with a stent and congratulations on a effective procedure. These alterations and symptoms are certainly not from the stent placement. There are certain medication and disease/disorder processes that can raise liver function tests. For instance, if you have a statin in your therapy, it may be the culprit of this situation, as there is a known fact from the studies that statins raise the liver function tests up to 8-10% of the cases. Since the bilirubin is high, I would also recommend an ultrasonography of abdomen, more to evaluate the gallbladder and the bile ducts. A blockage in the routes of excretion of bile and/or the inflamatin of the gallbladder walls can produce high figures of bilirubin and SGOT and SGPT.
I hope I was helpful with my answer. Best regards.
