Suggest Remedies For A Painful Indented Scabby Area Post An Injury

I have a wound that is indented and scabby after a surface scab came of. The injury occurred June 29, but the indented scabby area is still painful as is the area around it. There is no infection, I don t think, because the area around it is not warm to the touch nor is it red. I was on an antibiotic for two weeks in July when there was warmth and redness around the injury. Three days ago I started applying an ointment, Bactroban, three times daily for 14 days. What should my results be after that time?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted your history of having injury that healed with 2 weeks of antibiotic, applied Bactroban then, there is no redness or warmth but there is a scab that is tender.
The history indicates that you have a healed wound wherein the scar is showing the changes of hypertrophy or so and the nerve healing has caused such a problem that there is tenderness and overwork by body in the form of scabby area.
I would advise you the following in such a situation:
First of all stop applying antibiotic locally as they have no role in already healed wound.
You have to apply local softening agents.
The homemade combination of equal amount of honey and Vaseline really works the best for local softening of the area and reduce the scar tissue and the scabbing.
If the would was on a joint then do not overstretch the joint as these cause small cracks which on healing cause the changes that you have noted.
Consult a General Surgeon or a Plastic Surgeon for further clinical evaluation and examination to determine the cause and have most effective treatment.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Dr. T Chandrakant, ENT & General Surgeon
