The choice of antibiotic depends upon the species of the infecting bacteria.

There are many species of bacteria, each has its specific biological characteristics, thus different susceptibility to different types of antibiotics.

The best test is to do culture & sensitivity. This is done by taking a sample of the infected fluid and growing it on special plates containing different classes of antibiotics. The growth pattern is observed to determine the antibiotics that inhibits bacterial growth the most.

This test is readily available in all hospital labs. You can consult your doctor to order you this test.
