General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi. Sorry to hear about the problem of your partner. As far as your question is concerned, few more info may be needed to reach to a conclusive diagnosis. If there is any history of fever along with bloody diarrhea , the most probable possibility would be a GIT infection. In that case he may need to visit a primary physician and get investigated (stool examination/culture) and get a prescription of appropriate antibiotics accordingly. Next ,keeping in view the age factor, blood in stool should be taken seriously and and a complete evaluation may be needed. A sigmoidoscopy/colonoscopy may be needed to rule out any serious pathalogy or to diagnose and manage accordingly at an early stage of the disease. Hoping these lines might help you.
Wishing you and your loved ones the best of health.
Regards.
