Suggest Remedies For Burnt Tongue And Painful Throat After Drinking Hot Tea

Yesterday I had a sip of a very hot tea (thinking it is cold), it burned my mouth and throat. Now my upper side of mouth is sore, and I can t talk . Even when I whisper i feel pain in my throat. When I swallow I feel pain. I believe I have laryngitis. I take ibuprofen 200 every 5 hours. What do you recommend?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Continue Ibuprofen twice daily after food. Suck on ice chips or a popsicle to soothe the pain. Rinse with cool water or cool salt water (1/8 teaspoon of salt dissolved in 8 ounces of water). Avoid warm or hot liquids, which could irritate the burn. For reducing throat pain, sucralfate syrup can be taken half an hour before food. Do not drink water immediately so that the liquid does not get washed from the throat.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Saranya Ramadoss, General & Family Physician
