Suggest Remedies For Chest And Blood Infection In An Infant
Hi My nephew is 15 months. His WBC/TLC was 49100. He had chest and blood infection. He was hospitalised for a week. Dr came him medicine for infection. He was discharged 3 days ago. Do we again need to check his WBC/TLC to make sure it is normal now or after taking medicine, we don t need to worry to check. Thank you in advance.
Typically you would not need to check the WBC again after an infection, since the elevation is almost certainly from the infection, and it almost always goes back to normal once the infection is cleared.
However, over 49,000 is very high for a WBC, and so I would consider checking again after the infection is cleared, especially if he never had his WBC checked before this.
However, that would just be my preference, and another doctor may not feel it is necessary, which I think would also be reasonable as well.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Aaron Branch, General & Family Physician
