I have been coughing contineously the past 4 weeks, i ve been spitting dry and thick mucus or saliva i dont know cause its always clear with bubbles. As of this morning i was awaken by this contineous cough and when i spit i saw that i spat blood and now i can taste and smell blood inside of me. Can it be treated? Please help
This is an alarming symptom. The cause may acute and chronic bronchitis, pneumonia, tuberculosis, lung abscess, foreign body and lung cancer. Cause needs to be investigated properly. Advice 1. You can take over the counter cough suppressant like Benadryl syrup – 2 teaspoonful three times daily per oral for 7 days 2. Bromhexine 8 mg three times daily per oral for 7 days 3. Investigation a. Chest X – ray PA view b. Sputum Gram’s stain, culture, acid-fast bacillus smear and culture c. Complete blood count d. ESR Go to a hospital for further management Thanks
