Suggest Remedies For Constipation In An Infant

Hi, My 10 month old is on Nan 1 because Nan 2 was causing constipation (advise from dr) another dr suggested we try Similac comfort, it s been 6 days and we ve been doing the gradual introduction but he refuses to drink his bottle. What other formulae which is similar in taste and colour to Nan can I try that will be gentle on his tummy. Please bear in mind that I live in South Africa. Thanks , Gee

Hello,

Similac is the best formula and recommended by most of pediatricians. You can take lactulose syrup for symptomatic relief.

If constipation persists better to consult a pediatrician and plan for a TFT (thyroid function test) as hypothyroidism can cause constipation.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
