Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
MY ADULT SON HAS AN EAR INFECTION. TODAY HE FELT LIKE HE BLEW HIS EAR DRUM WHEN HE BLEW HIS NOSE. HE JUST STARTED AUGMENTIN TODAY THAT HE RECD PRESCRIPTION FROM THE E.R DOC LAST NIGHT. HE IS IN GREAT PAIN. IS THERE ANYTHING THAT A DOCTOR WOULD BE ABLE TO GIVE HIM OR DO FOR THE PAIN HE HAS, THAT IS A 9 ON THE PAIN LEVEL. THE FEELING LIKE HE BLEW THE EAR DRUM HAPPENED TODAY.
I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..
As per your complain it seems that pain in ear is due to infection even there is a possibility of perforating the eardrum when blowing nose as during infection eardrum can get inflamed and become week and can get perforated easily..
In case if he has a severe pain he can as of now take higher painkillers like Tramadol along with Augmentin.. He can also consult an Otolaryngologist and get a proper evaluation done and in case if there is perforation in eardrum, mild perforation generally resolves with antibiotics, anti-inflammatory painkillers, decongestants and antibiotic and analgesic ear drops.. Large perforation of those that does not heal with medication needs surgical correction.. Avoid exposure to excess water like swimming and also do not pick or pop the ear..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
