Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My daughter 23 years old is suffering from severe constipation and it is very painful trying to relieve herself. She has taken a laxative hours ago and tried a suppository about an hour ago. She said her legs go numb when she tries to relieve herself. What else might she try.
Chronic constipation is a matter of concern and it's irritating suffering which disturbs daily routine. I would advise her for certain dietary and lifestyle modifications to avoid constipation like encouraging her to avoid fatty fried and junk food and to take lots of fresh fruits and boiled vegetables.
Dietary fiber supplements like Ishabgol husk with lukewarm water. Motivate her to do light exercises and to drink lots of fluids orally. Meanwhile for symptomatic relief, since she has taken laxatives, it takes 6-8 hours to work.
If she is taking adequate dosage then definitely she will get relief. Laxatives like liquid paraffin or lactulose is recommended. If it doesn't work then dulcolax or enemas are another alternatives.
Hope this answers your question please feel free to ask for follow up question I will be happy to help you.
Regards, B R Hudda
