Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Our 5 year old son had 99 to 100 degree temperature since Friday and a runny nose. First I thought his allergies caused it, but his fever never lasted that long. In addition he has developed a really bad cough, giving him problems to sleep. We are planning on taking him to his pediatrician tomorrow. Is there anything I can do to help him sleep tonight? We gave him over the counter cough depressants, but nothing is working.
Understanding your concern. As per your query your son have symptoms of fever, cough and cold which is a sign of respiratory tract infection. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to use room humidifier and vapor rub that will give benefits to your child along with steam inhalation. You should use throat lozenges and go rinses with warm saline water. You should give your child short course of antibiotics such as Amoxicillin or azithromycin for 5-7 days along with antihistamine such as Chlorpheniramine. Take diet rich in vitamin B12. Visit pediatrician once and get it examined. Get chest X-ray done and start treatment after proper diagnosis. Apply wet sheets on head of child to lower down fever.
Hope your concern has been resolved.
Get Well Soon.
Best Wishes, Dr. Harry Maheshwari
