Suggest Remedies For Frequent Urination And Mild Urinary Bleeding

Hello. I am a 62 year old male in reasonably good health. This morning I have had to urinate more frequently that usual, and now have some blood in my urine. Could this be a bladder infection? My primary doctor is out of town for a week, and my urologist is too busy to see me for 3 weeks. He did order a urinalysis for an infrection, but the lab is closed today. Any advise would be appreciated.

Hello,

Yes, from the symptoms you are describing, it seems that you are suffering from urinary tract infection and require antibiotic treatment.

If you are not allergic to Fluoroquinolones group of medicines, you should start with Levofloxacin 250 mg (Levoflox) twice a day for five day. Combine it with an antacid (Ranitidine 150 mg) to prevent heartburn. You can take over the counter available analgesics like Acetaminophen 500 mg or Diclogesic Sodium 50 mg for symptomatic relief in presence of pain or fever.

Drink lots of fluids and avoid sodas for a few days. If the symptoms resolve within 3 days, you do not need to go for a urine analysis as it might not show positive results after antibiotic treatment. If the symptoms do not resolve, then urine analysis and culture test might be necessary. Do complete the antibiotic course of five days even if you feel better sooner than that.

I hope this information helps you. Thank you for choosing HealthcareMagic. I wish you feel better soon.

Best,
Dr. Viraj Shah
