Suggest Remedies For High Fever And Excessive Sweating

every few weeks I get sick starting on Friday and well by Monday. Starts with chills with numb fingers and toes for a couple hours until I ache all over from shivering. Then a couple hours of fever (102-104) and getting soaked in sweat. This goes on and off with overall feeling horrible and no appetite or energy. This has been going on for about a year. I am a 63 year old female. I am told by the various doctors that I have seen that I am in excellent health. Obviously I m not. What s up?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
I would like to explain you first the basic principle of what's happening in your body. Fever is obviously increase in the body temperature and when your body temperature is high your body tries to cool it down by sweating and increasing the diameter of your blood vessel which causes the chillness in the extremities.
Fever can be subsided by Tylenol or ibuprofen but the problem here is you get high fever intermittently. This might be a sign of some underlying infection that hasn't fully manifested yet.
I would advise you to have a consult with an infectious disease doctor who can perform a series of tests for the common pathogens endemic to your area. For eg in my area I would suspect a tuberculosis first or hiv as it is much prevalent. Its always better to eliminate the serious ones first rather than treating for the minor infections right from the beginning.
