My mother-in-law used to work in a kitchen in a nursing home and was exposed to huge amounts of bleach in dishwater. This caused her to get red blotchy spots all over her hands and forearms. It is itchy and painful, and is spreading all over her body.
We visited the doctor 3 times and ended up in the emergency room once as it was too painfull and too itchy and was all over the body. The doctor prescribed couple of creams which did nothing at all. He also prescribed the same meds that she was given in the emergency room. The meds helped reduce the itchiness and the redness, but didn't make it go away or get 95% better. She was also told to use over the counter Galaxal Base, and that helped for about a week but then one night after shower she used it and it got so bad that she had to go to the emergency again for the second time.
She has an appointment made with dermatologist for June and for allergist in November as it takes that long to get in and see someone.
Please advise if there is something that she could be doing to get rid of some of the irritation and itchiness?
thanks.
