Suggest Remedies For Meniscus Tear In Leg

I may have torn my meniscus on Tuesday but I am not sure since my Appointment for an MRI is on Wednesday. I have been keeping my leg in a brace and not bending it fully since I am nervous to make it worse. I am nervous that not moving it for a week straight will ruin my ability to bend it and if it isn t torn I will need a lot of PT. Should I start seeing if I can bend it again and slowly try? Or just leave it straight until my MRI?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

You may try to bend your knee within the limits of your pain. You should not forcefully do so though.
Generally, even if it is a meniscus tear but the knee is stable, the needed treatment is physiotherapy. It is only if physiotherapy is not giving good results in a few months or if you are an athlete that surgery is needed.
So it is very likely you will need a lot of physiotherapy anyway.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
