Continue taking your medications for thyroid treatment. You need to make changes in your diet and lifestyle in order to control the symptoms of
hypothyroidism. Since you are having high blood sugar levels, you need to monitor your blood sugar regularly and make adjustments in your activity and food intake accordingly.
Eat a healthy low fat, high fibre diet to reduce weight and control
diabetes.
Stay physically active throughout the day and limit sedentary activities like sitting for too long, watching TV or working on the computer for long hours. If you are working, then take short breaks at work and go for a 15 minutes walk whenever possible. Take stairs instead of elevators and walk as much as you can without any discomfort or pain.
Does heaviness in legs occurs only while walking or even when you are sitting/lying down? If it occurs on exertion, then it indicates poor blood supply to the feet. Hypothyroidism causes
high cholesterol levels which might be narrowing the blood flow through the arteries. Consult a doctor, if you have high cholesterol also. Otherwise
muscular weakness can also be responsible for heaviness in legs.
Cut down on intake of fried, fatty, junk food, avoid red meat and egg yolk which is high in cholesterol. Reduce fat intake by limiting use of cooking oil to not more than 300-500 ml per person per month.
Use non-stick pan for reducing oil in cooking. Avoid butter, ghee and margarine. Use low fat or skimmed milk.
Increase intake of fibre by including whole grain cereals, fresh fruits and vegetables in the form of raw salads. Hope this will help you in leading a healthier life.
