Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I was hit in the rubs playing sports and I felt a crack/pop and a sharp pain. For the following days I felt pain on inhaling deeply or lying on my front or back. I did get an x-ray and no fracture can be seen. It is now 2 weeks since the injury and it is still waking me up in the night if I roll onto my front or back. It also hurts to sneeze/cough/laugh. Is there any way to determine what is wrong and what is a normal time to heal? Is there anything I can do to heal faster? I can t really wear a brace around my ribcage but I keep re-injuring the area by opening doors, lifting things, etc when I forget about my injury. Any advice would be appreciated.
Since there is no fracture the pain is due to the inflammation of intercostal muscles. Hot fomentation is helpful then apply analgesicointments. The brace will not benefit. Stay away from a direct fan or a/c blower.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
