Suggest Remedies For Persistent Cough Not Responding To OTC Medications

I ve had a persistent cough for the past 10 days. It s constant and I m not sleeping because of it. It makes my head hurt like a horrible headache. Sometimes it s dry and other times is phlemy. I have tried every single over the counter cough medicine plus cough drops and absolutely nothing is helping. I ve even tried honey and tea. What is this and what should I do?

General & Family Physician 's  Response

Hi
Thank you for asking HCM
I have gone through your query. Your problem can be due allergic bronchitis. Better to have a chest auscultation with your physician to rule out any lung signs. Taking antihistamines like cetrizine ( zyrtec ) , proton pump inhibitors like esomeprazole and cough suppressants will be helpful. In case of yellowish phlegm you may need antibiotics as it is sign of bacterial infection. Taking chewable vitamin C is also good.

Hope this may help you. Let me know if anything not clear.
Thanks.
