Suggest Remedies For Persistent Hiccups Post Knee Replacement Surgery

I had a total replacement of my left knee on 15 November. Since then I ve had hiccups non stop (except when I managed to fall asleep). My GP prescribed Metoclopramide 10mg 30 minutes before a meal but said it might not work. The knee surgeon refuses to opine, saying it s not an orthopedic matter but a medical matter. But he and maybe the anesthesiologist caused it and he best knows the combination of pain killers (Tramadol, Celecoxib, Hydromorphone) he prescribed to curb pain. It s hard to talk; throat is dry making it hard to eat and of course it s a constant irritant. Any help/suggestions would be welcomed. Thks. Ray

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I too think as your orthopedic specialist: the hiccup is not from knee replacement surgery. It is due to any hyperacidity problem of the stomach (acid reflux or gastritis). I highly recommend to consult with a gastroenterologist, and ask to run upper endoscopy to determine the right diagnosis and treatment strategy.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
