Suggest Remedies For Persistent Joints Pain And Itching After Recovering From Chikungunya

My mother was suffering from Chikungunya for last one week. At first there was high grade fever & severe joint pain. But as the fever subsides, itching & rash appears in all over the body. The joint pain is also there. The itching is unbearable. What to do to give her comfort? Is there any medication?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

The itching associated with these viral illnesses can sometimes be unbearable.

She can use an oral antihistamine along with topical medications to help with the itching.
Oral antihistamines would be over the counter eg benadryl, claritine, allegra, zyrtec

Calamine lotion, which is also over the counter, is also helpful to reduce itching as well.

I hope this helps
