Hello,
Persistent pain in the back above rib cage is commonly indicative of
Costochondritis, Myofascial pain, pressure on the spinal nerve due to
herniated disc, injury to the muscles, ligaments and discs, overuse or
muscle strain. It can sometimes be due to IBS, gastritis, GERD, etc.
To get rid of the pain you should change the mattress where you sleep, maintain BMI & correct posture, take fiber rich food, avoid constipation & take laxatives at bed time. Stay hydrated. You can take antacids, muscle relaxants &
acetaminophen for relieve of pain. You are suggested to get clinically assessed to rule out herniated discs, costochondritis, slipped disc,
spinal infection, etc.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K, General & Family Physician
