Suggest Remedies For Prolonged Discomfort Post Tympanoplasty

I had a tympanoplasty in 2010 and it didn t fully heal. I have been in and out of ent and surgeon office. I feel like there is a big risk of infection. I am concerned that I have an ongoing infection and fear repair will cause it to go untreated and possibly lead to encephalitis or other infection. Is that possible.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Once healed the internal scar of tympanoplasty, there should not be any threat of internal issues unless gross external microbes penetrate the area of surgery.

Be in regular follow up with your ENT and take the earliest therapy for any possible ear infection to avoid any unwanted outcomes in future.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Purva Patel,
