hello concerned wife and thanks for writing to HCM
I have read your query and understand your concern.
from the history given,I would go for a diagnosis of lower
back sprain and/or strain that involves injury to muscle and ligament of the lower back
It is pretty obvious that lifting up the heavy suitcase likely have caused the same since there is no mention of any history of previous trauma or
arthritis or a
slipped disc in his case
Tylenol is basically
acetaminophen which will help will the pain
What i recommend to him ,if he was my patient in this case would be:
take rest for two to four weeks(not complete bed rest),while maintaining a supported posture and avoid movements that increase the pain.
Instead of tylenol i would recommend to go for ibuprofen or naproxen as and when needed or a combination of
aceclofenac along with
muscle relaxant like thiocolchicoside twice daily for a week
Try warm compresses over the area along with
diclofenac gel application.
all this will relieve the pain he is experiencing and can get back to normal activities in two to four weeks.
If the pain increases or it lasts more than two months,i would recommend investigations like x-ray and MRI for further management
Hope all this helps your husband and it clarifies your doubts
Followup if needed ,take care and good day
