my mother has external cancer tumors on her chest. I went to the medical supply company to purchase petroleum gauze strips to cover her tumors. I was sold bismuth tribromophenate gauze rolls. I went to change her dressing today and she is full of rash over her entire body below the neck. What should I do and what will this bismuth tribromophenate do to her if her tumors are open wounds. Should I take her to the hospital. She showered to remove it and I covered it will clean gauze.
Hi. As per your case history your mother is having allergic dermatitis. My treatment advice is - 1. Avoid using such gauze pieces for dressing. 2. Apply a mild antibiotic plus steroid cream like fusiderm-b cream twice daily on affected skin. 3. Take an antihistamine medication like levocetrizine twice daily for 7-10 days. 4. Other treatment options are oral antibiotics, oral steroid taken only after consulting a dermatologist.
Thanks. Dr. Harshit bhachech. MBBS, DDVL.
