Suggest Remedies For Red And Swollen Finger Post A Thorn Prick
I was picking cucumbers in my garden and a sticky thorn on the cucumber stuck in my finger beside the nail. My finger doubled in size and is red. Is it a bacterial or staph infection? I don t have insurance and not enough money to go to the doctor. I am taking penicillin that was ordered online. I don t know how many days I should take it. Sorry for your time, I thought answers were free.
Antibiotics are usually taken for at least 7 days for this type of injury. The use of anti-inflammatory medication may help as well eg naproxen or ibuprofen- One of these would help to reduce the swelling and pain.
If you have a history of diabetes or any other condition that can affect your immune system from responding, then you should be seen.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Michelle Gibson James, General & Family Physician
