Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My daughter has just come home from school because her foot was hurting so much - the pain is on the top of the right foot and over to the ankle and only hurts when she walks. I have given her some ibuprofen and elevated her foot and it is not hurting.
I understand your concern. Is there any bruise then? Did your daughter had a heavy activity before? Are ache also felt in the joints of the foot? Are there other symptoms besides muscle and joint pain, such as stiffness especially early in the morning when waking up, fever, redness or swelling in the joints?
Muscle and joint pain can be caused by various things, muscle injury caused by unusual movements, gout and arthritis. However, the latter two causes are usually found in old age, although it can also be found at a young age. To make the diagnosis requires a physical examination on her feet.
Pain can be reduced by taking painkillers such as paracetamol, ibuprofen, diclofenac sodium, aspirin. However, the drug should not be used carelessly and excessive because it can cause side effects. Massage will only reduce symptoms if the cause of pain due to stiff / muscle injury.
If symptoms do not diminish, you should bring your daugter to consult to a rheumatologist for further tests and treatment.
Hope this helps. Take care.
