OVER A LONG PERIOD TIME I HAVE HAD THEIGH MUSCLE PAIN AND NOW I HAVE PINS AND NEEDLES IN BOTH MY LEGS IN THE SHIN AND INSTEP OF MY LEGS. I HAVE ALSO FELT SLIGHLY OFF BALANCE AND MY LEGS FEEL WEAKISH. I AM HAVING A TEST ON FRIDAY TO MEASURE IF I HAVE PAD. MY QUESTION IS HOW CAN I REDUCE MY PAIN AND STOP THE PROGRESSION OF PAD
Based on the history you have shared, you might be having NCS or EMG planned however MRI spine may also be needed. Meanwhile, OTC analgesics like Acetaminophen or Ibuprofen can be used for symptomatic relief.
If pain is severe, more potent analgesics like Tramadol or nerve pain suppressants like Gabapentin or Duloxetine may be needed.
For slowing progress occasionally, supplements for B12 and folic acid may be helpful. Sugar and thyroid profile should also be sought.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Wishing you a speedy recovery.
Regards,
Dr. Saddiq Ulabidin, General & Family Physician
