Hello.

You do seem to have a significant injury if you are not able to walk on the affected leg.

The possibilities of injuries around the knee are ligament tear especially ACL injuries, meniscus injuries or cartilage injuries. It can be confirmed clinically by certain tests by the orthopaedician and by MRI or Xray of the knee joint.

I suggest you do consult an orthopaedician as early as possible. Till then I would advise you:
1. Not to bear weight on the affected leg and less walking.
2. Application of ice packs for 15 mins three times a day.
3. Crepe bandage or knee immobiliser to give rest to the joint.

You may also take a short course of painkillers if the pain is difficult to tolerate. Pain killers like paracetamol, diclofenac and ibuprofen can be taken for 3 days. Avoid if you have diabetes or a kidney condition and also donot take for more than 7-10 days. If you have diabetes, you can take tramadol. You can also take an anti-inflammatory medicine like serratiopeptidase to decrease the internal swelling.

Hope this helps. Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Regards,
Dr Geeta
