Suggest Remedies For Swelling And Pain In Right Foot

My right foot is swolen and was very painful. Had x-ray and blood test. CBC showed no infection, waiting on the other results. I was given a prednisone shot and pain pills. Took one pain pill and the pain is gone but not the swelling. I have been soaking it in ice water but it hasn t helped. Any ideas?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

* As per my clinical experience, the swelling with pain in right foot is indicative of inflammation underlying most likely from bacterial infection (though a blood test is normal, this is possible).

* In addition to ice application and steroid shot, you require

- elevation of the foot over 3-4 pillows and avoidance of weight-bearing

- prescription of antibiotics as amoxicillin + clavulanic acid or else as per the choice of your doc to prevent abscess formation or spread of infection.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
