Suggest Remedies For Swelling And Sharp Pain In The Knee
After 2 days of digging and preparing landscaping area, experienced swollen knee and sharp pain behind knee cap, middle of knee. It is better after 3 weeks, swelling virtually gone, but sharp pain continues, mainly after walking for more than a minute or two. What are the possibilities? Thanks, Steve
Pain in the knee area behind the knee cap that too after heavy work with mechanical friction on the knee area could be due to bursitis. It occurs more specifically when a person does work with much pressure on his knees (house maids etc).
As you say that there was a swelling which later on disappeared, this provides me some clue towards pre-patellar bursitis. As you said the swelling has virtually gone. I think the acute phase has resolved and it would have progressed to the chronic phase. Not to worry much as it doesn't require much to do to overcome the pain. Initially I suggest you to take some analgesic (pain killer) like diclofenac to get the pain relieved.
If the swelling is still visible or if the pain continues we can fill the bursa sac with a hydrocortisone injection. Though little surgery might be required rarely in some cases.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
