Suggest Remedies For Swollen Bump On The Foot Post An Injury

My boy 15 year old had trauma to the bottom of his heel two weeks ago. It is healing slowly with ice therapy. He was able to attend competitive soccer today for the first time. He ice it with a frozen bottle rolling the injured area and we noticed a little swelling or bump in the bottom of the foot where the arch meets the front of the heel pad on the bottom.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

The trauma your son had seemed to have caused a hematoma (collection of blood) which responded to the ice pack well such injury if not infected mostly recedes over a time of 2-3 weeks. But if infected it can form an abscess. It is mostly accompanied by a lump, pain & fever with lymph node enlargement in the groin. In case your son has any of the above symptoms... take him to your family physicians for the advice of a suitable antibiotic.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Vasudha Jayant Athavale, General & Family Physician
