Suggest Remedies For Swollen Leg And Foot Post An Injury

My husband slipped & fell in the shower 5 days ago. His leg is bruised & swollen. He did go to the Dr. yesterday. The Dr. said he did not see any sign of blood clots. He should keep exercising & elevate for relief. His leg & foot are tightly swollen.

Hello
Thank you for your query.

I hope to help you with your query today.

-is he able to walk?
-how is the pain?
-does he have any other medical issues? Or on any medications?

I recommend :
-an x-ray of the foot to rule out fractures
- elevation of affected leg over hip level (support the whole leg, not just the foot)
-ice packs (wrapped in a thin cloth) to reduce inflammation.
-anti inflammatory gels (diclofenac) and drugs to help reduce pain & swelling.
-avoid standing for too long. Keep leg elevated whenever at rest (don't hang it down)
-avoid tight fitting shoe wear.

This should reduce and show improvement in 2-3 days of above measures. It will take upto 2-3 weeks to completely heal. If it does show any improvement see your doctor once more.

Hope this helps. Pls let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.
Wish you both good health
