Suggest Remedies For Twisted Ankle/foot

I twisted my foot/ankle a few days ago at work. I thought it was alright, but in the past day or two it has begun burning and throbbing, but is not swollen. I ve been propping it up and using an ice pack. Anything else that would help? Is it worth getting it looked at by a doctor?

Hello,

As what I feel is an x-ray is a must. it might be an ankle sprain but sometimes a hairline fracture too which gets ignored in initial stages and later the healing is not proper.

Please get an x-ray and meet up and orthopedist. Also, for now kindly Immobilize the ankle with crepe bandage and keep it elevated over a pillow and do not put 100% of body weight for 2 weeks.

For healing to occur. Most ankle sprains which happen in the ankle ligaments don't heal properly due to poor care.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Hello,

You could try using an ankle wrap that you can buy at the store. This will stabilize your ankle and let the soft tissues calm down. Since there is no swelling, and you are able to walk, it is very unlikely that you broke it.

I don't think you need to go to a doctor, but if this happens again, then you may want to do a special type of physical therapy called proprioceptive therapy.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Daniel Richard Paull, Orthopaedic Surgeon
