Suggest Remedies For Weakness While Breastfeeding

Hi,

My wife had a normal delivery in the month of may. Doctors had made a small cut during delivery. It is already two months but the cut is not heeled yet. She is continuously taking all the prescribed medicines but still it is not getting normal. She is also feeling very weak as my baby is breastfeed. Please suggest a proper diet and a solution.

First of all congrats to you and your family on the arrival of a new member!! It is exciting as well as a challenging phase for parents.

Well, the cut made during delivery called episiotomy is usually expected to heal in 2-3 weeks after delivery.By healing, I mean, there should be minimal pain and stitches should have fallen off and there is scar tissue formation.
Does your wife have pain or any pus/ discharge? Keeping the area clean, dry and keeping it open to air atleast 10 minutes a day is what I suggest to my patients for a good healing. But, if there is any severe pain, fever, pus or redness over the area, it is good to get the area checked.

And I really appreciate that you are taking such a good care of your wife and are concerned about her health. A good well balanced diet is certainly needed for a nursing mom which should ideally have more of fruits, green leafy vegetables, low fat dairy products, whole grain cereals which are nutritious and easy to digest. Weakness in new moms is not uncommon because when the baby is feeding, the mom needs to take care of her diet and fluid intake. Your wife may opt for fruit juices, milk, plain water to stay hydrated. I normally suggest the new moms to take healthy meals every 2-3 hours and if she is a non vegetarian, eggs, salmon, lean beef may be some good options.
I would also recommend cutting back on spicy, fatty food, junk food, gas producing food like beans, broccoli, cabbage etc.

Hope your wife and baby stay healthy and you guys enjoy this amazing period of parenthood. Please feel free to reach me anytime, I am always happy to answer any question.
