Suggest Remedies For Weight Gain After Discontinuing Adipex

I was on adipex and topomax for weight loss for about 3 months. I lost about 37 lbs. I went off the adipex but the dr. told me to continue 50 mg. Topamax for about 3 more months. I went off them and have held my weight. I continue to monitor calories, run and am in good shape . I am 57 and just entering menopause. My weight is starting to creep up and I am still doing the same thing. Maybe not as careful about weight and measuring my food. I still have a bunch of the Topamax left that is not expired. Is it ok to start taking for a month to get back to my goal weight??

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

It should be okay to restart the Topamax at this stage.

To avoid weight regain when you discontinue the medication, you would need to be careful with your diet and increase your level of physical activity to 150 to 200 mins a week if it is not at this level already.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Michelle Gibson James, General & Family Physician
