It is normal to gain weight during pregnancy. Around 10-12 kgs of weight gain during pregnancy is considered a healthy sign. Yes, after delivery you will shed weight if you eat a healthy diet which is well-balanced and avoid fried and fatty foods, foods rich in refined carbohydrates and have plenty of fruits and vegetables with low fat milk. Breast feeding your baby helps to shed weight gained during pregnancy. Stay active and watch what you eat as you need a good nutritious diet during pregnancy and also when you feed your baby. Make sure you include iron and calcium rich foods in your diet like green leafy vegetables, milk/curd and cheese for calcium. Avoid foods which provide empty calories like soft drinks, sweetened beverages, fried snacks, cookies and biscuits, processed foods as they are rich in fats and sugars but have a very low nutritional value.
