I have a sore that is between my pinky toe and the toe next to it. It has been there over a year. It wont heal and now the outter skin of the toe has hardened. When i pick the skin off of it , it has a smell to it and it hurts and sometimes it swells up and it is hard to wear shoes. Help please.
hello. I have read your question and understand your concern.
from your question I understand that you have a recurring smelly rash between your toes which sometimes hurt. this is known as intertrigo.
intertrigo are caused by accumulation of sweat and cell debris. this gets infected by yeast and anaerobic bacteria.
I see a lot of patients with similar problem and they respond well to a short course of antifungals. I usually prescribe tab fluconazole 150 mg stat along with clotrimazole cream twice daily.
I suggest you wear an open footwears to avoid excessive sweating. also you should get your blood sugar checked as sometimes intertrigo can be a sign of diabetes.
I suggest you see your dermatologist and discuss the above management.
hope I have solved your query. for any further questions please feel free to contact us. thanks.
