Suggest Remedy For Abdominal Cramps Post Mirena Insertion
I had a mirena inserted 3 months ago and from the beginning, I have been experiencing severe stomach cramps, mainly when my period is due. These cramps are not like period cramps but more like cramping from extreme gas. Especially in my groin where I had hernia surgery 5 years ago. My doctor says it s not related to the mirena but I m positive it is. I have also noticed dairy and wheat make the gassiness and cramps much worse. do you have a suggestion of what would help with this issue or should I get the mirena removed?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi,
With Mirena, while the periods are to start, certain hormone prostaglandin dins are released in your uterus, which can circulate in your blood to cause constipation and production of gases causing pain in groin. To control or prevent the problem, increase water and fiber intake increase abdominal exercises to clear bowels and avoid gassiness
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Vasudha Jayant Athavale, General & Family Physician
