My mom has persistent cough and the doctor she consulted mentioned it is because of acid reflux. He prescribed happi-it and she has been taking it for a month now. The cough stopped almost completely as a result. However, she has now stopped taking it as the course is complete and her cough has returned. Normally how long does a patient have to take happi-it to get cured of the acid reflux problem? Is it a long term treatment?
In my opinion your mother is having GERD and due to this she is having coughing. It is a diease of gastroesophageal sphincter. When this sphincter is mal functioning it will cause stomach acid to come upbin esophagus and cause symptoms. I would suggest some basic steps. 1. Avoid spicy and oily food. 2. Avoid heavy meals, Take frequent small meals. 3. Avoid stress and anxiety and keep calm. 4. Take good antacids like pantoprazole and rabeprazole with prokinetic agents like levosulperide. . 5. Go for walk after meals. 6. Keep 2 - 3 pillows below your head in the bed.
