Pica, an eating disorder, such as soil or uncooked food particles, etc. There are observations that women have iron deficiency anemia and raw rice eating habit. Raw rice contains lectin, a compound which cannot be digested. The undigested food particle passed through the intestine and damages the intestinal wall. This leads to poor absorption of nutrients. There is no proven theory for anemia and eating raw rice. Counselling is enough to overcome the habit.
Green leafy vegetables are rich source of iron which on regular intake, improve the hemoglobin levels. Iron supplementation is essential to improve the hemoglobin in pregnancy. Since you are in 36 weeks of pregnancy, blood transfusion is advised to overcome anemia and its complications during delivery and in postpartum period. Discuss with your doctor about the treatment options.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
