Suggest Remedy For Anxiety When On 5 Mcg Of Cytomel Post Thyroidectomy
EndocrinoIogy. I had a total thyroidectomy 2 years ago. Ive never felt comfortable on thyroid hormone. My Endo just reduced me to 88 mcg of Synthroid and 5mcg of Cytomyl. I began the Cytomyl 4 weeks ago. I feel anxious and shaky on this dosage. but my t4, tsh and t3 numbers fall into the normal range. Why do I feel so "lousy" all the time? Any suggestions?
Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries
I can understand your concern. Cytomel is Liothyronine and the drug is a synthetic thyroid hormone analogue. The drug is known to result in anxiety because of its peripheral effects. A lot of individuals suffering from hypothyroidism or post thyroidectomy while on this drug have symptoms like racing heart rate, tremors, sweating etc. Mild symptoms respond to drugs like low dose benzodiazepines as Clonazepam, Lorazepam etc. While sometimes drugs like Betablockers as Propranolol has been found to be useful. Please consult with your doctor for prescription of these drugs and for reduction of doses of Cytomel if needed.
Thanks, I hope this helps you.
Take care
