Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
what is the cause and remedy of right side lower back pain extending to the right thigh with knee swelling?I am a 43 years old female, height 5ft 2inches, weight 72kgs, underwent laproscopic hysterectomy in 2009 during which my urethra was damaged and had to undergo open sugery to fix it.
There are two possibilities, first you have nerve root compression in your lower back that causes pain in back and radiates to your thigh and knee.
Second is you have lower back root compression along with arthritis of your knee pain in the thigh is referred pain from either of the two. Second one is more probable as you have knee swelling as well which is not likely if the cause is root compression only.
You need to get x-ray of your bavk and knee and if required mri as well. Further management depends on the cause and severity of the disease.
In the mean time you need to do warm saline fomentation of the affected parts and physiotherapy.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Rohan Shanker Tiwari
