General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

As per my clinical experience, the long terms use of steroids do pause the issue of hyperglycemia by various mechanics of liver digestion of carbohydrates and other metabolic substances. My guidelines at present:
- Get a urine microscopy and culture report for underlying infection evaluation
- If culture positive, specific antibiotics as per the sensitivity of responsible gram negative or positive bugs
- Avoid night time use of excess water
- Vigilant control of blood sugar, HBA1c (must be below 6% suggestive of strict sugar control)
- Correction of obesity and other endocrine disorders

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
