Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I accidentally slammed my car door into my lower leg one week ago, resulting in 6 x 6 bruise and apparent hematoma much larger than an egg. The bruising is still there and the hematoma has reduced to the size of a small egg, but still quite hard. Can I resume my regular intense exercise program of treadmill and weights? Do I need to see a doctor? I am 66.
Do not do heavy exercise or treadmill, will increase blood flow to that area and increase hematoma. Take proper rest with raised leg will help you in reducing hematoma and discoloration to that part. Use cold ice pack will do healing fast and also reduce swelling there. Don't take aspirin, just take brufen or paracetamol as a painkiller. Massage the local area and drink fluids If very high fever and pressure around bruised area, immediately consult your clinician.
Hope you are satisfied by these suggestions. Take care and have a healthy life ahead....
