Suggest Remedy For Bumps On Butt Due To Tailbone Injury

I landed on my tail bone and went to urgent care to check for broken tailbone which x-ray was negative. I still have a lot of pain while sitting and a lump on my right butt cheek. When I slouch it really hurts especially coming from area of bump. What is the bump and is the pain coming from?

Hi,
The injury you sustained can lead to quite a lot of pain even though your X-ray was normal. This is due to soft tissue injury and hematoma which is a collection of blood that spreads in the surrounding tissues. This will cause a lumpiness to develop in the area which can be very sensitive.
It will return to normal but this may take a few weeks. In the meantime, take paracetamol and ibuprofen for the pain and swelling. You may benefit from sitting on a padded support under your tailbone. Avoid activities which make the pain worse.
I wish you a speedy recovery.
Regards,
Dr K A Pottinger
