I recently had diagnostic mammogram completed and have been told that I have calcifications in my breast. I understand that most of the time "calcifications" are benign and that I shouldn't worry. I do have a history of cancer on both sides of my family. I also know that some calcifications can be pre-cancerous. I have been told that I should request to have a biopsy and not wait to follow up in 6 months. I have not receive the official results from the screen. I am just going off of what I was told after my extra testing. I am a nervous wreck. Any answers.
hi madam. there are many types of calcification in breast. microcalcification is the type which is more often associated with cancer. popcorn calcification is usually benign. so how to treat these depends on the type of calcification and examination by doctor. doing a biopsy is always helpful in the decision making.
